"A brand new agency — the General Services Administration — has started operations.” That's what a press release said … sent out to Sunday papers 70 years ago this month. It came two days after President Harry S. Truman signed the Federal Property and Administrative Services Act of 1949. Today, GSA’s influence and impact is felt across every part of federal, state and local government and throughout the private sector. In the first part of his special report, "GSA at 70: Mission evolved," Federal News Network Executive Editor Jason Miller spoke with Lenny Lowentritt and Mary Davie, two of the longest serving GSA employees. They discussed how the agency has expanded and matured since opening shop in 1949. Hear their conversation on Federal Drive with Tom Temin.
